Botox is a synthetic protein which is used to diminish or inhibit muscle activity. It has been medically available for decades and has been used in the treatment of muscle spasms in many parts of the body. More recently it was discovered that Botox was effective in the cosmetic treatment of some facial wrinkles. Botox cosmetic, developed by the Allergan Corporation, was introduced several years ago and has been used very effectively to treat the lines of the forehead, between the eyebrows and around the eyes (crows feet).

Botox treatments are measured in units. If you are going to receive Botox treatment to diminish your facial lines you should know how many units you are getting. If you don’t receive enough units the treatment may be less effective or not last as long. The average number of units used between the eyebrows is 20u, the forehead 10u and the eyes 10u for each eye.

There are other areas of the face where Botox can be used, but those mentioned above are the most common and the most effective.
